Kadomatsu is a traditional decoration put in front of homes to welcome ancestral spirits or gods of harvest.  They are placed after Christmas until January 7th.  There are various kinds of ways they look like depending on the region.  They are typically made of pine, Bamboo, and sometimes Ume tree springs.
