173px-Hotei one of the seven Gods of good fortune

Hotei painted by Utagawa Kuniyoshi.

Hotei, or the laughing Buddha, is a chinese folkloric diety. His, not her, name means clothes sack.  Hotei is depicted as a fat bald man wearing a robe.  Some say that if you rub his tummy, you'll get good luck.  He carries few things in his clothes sack, as he is poor, but content.  He is also often depicted entertaining children, or having children follow him.  His image is shown in temples, resturaunts, amulets, or businesses.
